June 16, 2015:
The Greater Houston Partnership (GHP) and the City of Houston Mayor’s International Trade and Development Council (MITDC) for Europe will lead a delegation to Frankfurt, Germany, to participate as a keynote presenter in the ACHEMA trade fair, an exhibition widely considered to be the most important industry event in the chemical sector this year. During this visit, both parties will jointly coordinate an informational presentation at the fair’s Worldwide Business Forum to highlight Houston’s growth as a global investment magnet in the chemicals sector. This rare honor, which distinguishes Houston as one of the primary foci of the forum, is only granted to one city every three years. The event will also feature contributions from the Fluor Corporation, Linde Engineering, Samson Controls Inc. and IHS Chemical Insights.
ACHEMA, as one of the world’s major industry gatherings, is expected to host over 170,000 participants from 111 countries this year. The event will have 1.4 million square feet of exhibition space, featuring more than 3,800 exhibitors showcasing their products, technology and expertise in their respective fields.
Houston, as one of the largest petrochemical manufacturing areas in the world, is a front runner in the worldwide petrochemicals market. Benefiting strongly from competitively priced feedstocks as a result of shale fracturing, Houston is becoming increasingly attractive for international investment, with its petrochemicals exports out of the Houston Ship Channel expected to double or even possibly triple in the next two years.
“This is an opportunity for [the international business community] to know about [Houston’s] expansion, job creation, and growing economy,” says Dr. Marvin L. Baker, President of High Technology Associates, former Chairman of MITDC Europe and a principle organizer of Houston’s participation. “It was gratifying to observe the support of Houston based companies in finding key Houston businessmen to volunteer as speakers for this important event. This leads to inward investment – indeed, the whole exercise is about inward investment.
The presentation, entitled, “Houston, Texas – USA Petrochemicals Center,” will cover subjects ranging from an overview of the US Gulf Coast’s chemicals sector, to the hiring of Houston employees and the selecting of sales channels. With access to ACHEMA’s hundreds of thousands of participants, this forum will enable Houston’s burgeoning chemical market to receive an unprecedented level of exposure, and provide the city with an opportunity to showcase its recent successes and future potential in the industry.
