The University of Houston Downtown (UHD) is touting the development of a comprehensive and corporate-driven curriculum for its MBA program. A rigorous supplement to the general MBA program, the new corporate-driven MBA program offers students seeking an immersive program the opportunity to focus their studies in one of five main concentrations: finance, investment management, human resources management, leadership, and supply chain management. Within those five concentrations, students can develop a substantial depth of understanding in areas that have been determined as high-need by the program’s corporate advisers.
In order to create the corporate-driven curriculum, UHD’s College of Business reached out to leading regional corporate partners and asked for key executives to help shape the content of the curriculum in the five concentrations. Corporate stakeholders like Aflac, Houston METRO, and Calpine Corporation, sent representative specialists to help define the five corporate-driven concentrations. With the help of these representatives, UHD went through an involved process to outline each individual concentration based on strong market interest.
The College of Business has incorporated a great deal of flexibility into the program. For example, the concentrations are available as free-standing graduate certificates. Students can apply the graduate certificate as the concentration in their MBA program. In addition, MBA students have the option to complete the program in a part face-to-face, part online environment, allowing them to finish two core courses each eight-week term. MBA students may also choose how quickly they wish to complete their MBA programs: UHD offers one year, two year, and three year plans.
The program allows companies to sponsor associates who gain valuable knowledge through in-depth study of one of the five concentrations. The Leadership Concentration appeals to companies because it provides a comprehensive solution to their education and training needs.
