On May 22nd, Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Houston, Ed Gonzalez, met the Vice Mayor of Adana, Turkey, Mr. Ferat Yuksel and his delegation. On the agenda for discussion was the opportunity to improve bilateral connectivity, particularly in areas related to small business development, health and tourism.
Adana is the fifth most populous city in Turkey. Located approximately 300 miles South East of Turkey’s capital city, Ankara, Adana’s economy is based heavily in agriculture and the manufacturing industry.
In 2013, the City of Adana and the City of Houston signed a partnership agreement highlighting broad areas for cooperation and enhanced exchanges.
While in Houston, the delegation also met with the Greater Houston Partnership and the University of Houston. The delegation’s visit was arranged, in part, by the Texas Turkish American Chamber of Commerce.
