Mayor Annise Parker spoke at the HSBC Made For Trade event in Houston on May 13, 2014. Part of a national dialogue on the regional and global impact of trade with industry, government, and academic leaders, Houston’s event featured research commissioned by HSBC from Houston business stakeholders the Greater Houston Partnership. The report featured information about projected booms in the Houston region exporting industry in conjunction with major developments in the Texas-Mexico area–including an increase in numbers of chemical and liquid natural gas plants and Mexico’s oil and gas industry opening up to foreign investment.
Mayor Parker spoke of Houston’s unique position for trade as a place where “the railroad meets the sea,” and which has thrived due to its resourceful, innovative and internationally-minded residents.
