The revitalized Trade & Investment Queensland, North America was officially opened for business by the Honorable Rick Perry, Governor of Texas and the Honorable Campbell Newman M.P, Premier of Queensland. Over 150 guests attended the official office opening and reception in Houston, Texas on Wednesday March 12th, 2014 which capped off a successful week long trade mission to the USA.
The trade mission across Los Angeles, New York and Houston was led by the Premier of Queensland and Trade & Investment Queensland’s, Trade Commissioner, David Camerlengo and CEO, Andrew Tulloch. Business and academic leaders from Queensland formed the delegation of almost 40 that participated in the trade mission across all cities. Queensland and Texas share many similarities including lifestyle and business cultures. It is these similarities that form the foundation for the monumental sister state agreement between both states which was signed by Governor Perry and Premier Newman at the office opening. This important agreement will form the framework to build upon the already strong economic, business, academic and cultural ties between both regions.
The 150 guests and media in attendance were treated to a number of high profile speakers at the office opening. In addition to Premier Newman and Governor Perry, the audience had the pleasure of hearing from notable former US Federal Secretary of Transportation and Chief of Staff to President George W. Bush, Secretary Andy Card and Commissioner of Texas General Land Office, Commissioner Jerry Patterson. Trade & Investment Queensland were officially welcomed to Texas by President George H. W. Bush and President George W. Bush. This was truly humbling to receive such recognition and we also thank Secretary Andy Card for providing the personal touch by reading their letters at our reception. Didgeridoo player and performer, Cameron McCarthy from the Kuku-Yalanji tribe in far North Queensland entertained the crowd with his performance.
