On August 13, 2013, Mayor Pro Tem Ed Gonzalez met with Madam Lu Xinxin, Senior Executive Director of Human Resources for China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC). Madame Lu is in charge of all employee training programs at CNOOC, and was in Texas as part of a University of Texas’ McCombs School of Business program offering business and technical training. While in Texas, she visited Houston for a courtesy visit with Mayor Pro Tem Gonzalez to celebrate the strong ties between CNOOC and the City of Houston.
CNOOC is China’s largest producer of offshore crude oil and natural gas, and currently has its headquarters in Houston. With their recent acquisition of Canadian oil company Nexen, CNOOC is poised to expand their operations in North America. During a recent trade mission to Beijing, City of Houston Chief Development Officer, Mr. Andy Icken, met with CNOOC CEO Li Fanrong to further enhance cooperation and development between CNOOC and Houston.
